Rankings are from the AVCA:
No. 1 Nebraska (11-0): The Huskers' challenging nonconference schedule included wins against Pitt, Stanford, Kentucky and Creighton. Nebraska started a season 10-0 for the third time since joining the Big Ten in 2011. Next: vs. Maryland on Saturday, Sept. 27.
No. 2 Texas (9-0): Texas boasts five top-10 victories in nonconference play to start the season. The Longhorns are coming off four consecutive home sweeps.
Next: vs. Missouri on Friday, Sept. 26.
No. 14 BYU (12-0): BYU sails unscathed with its fifth-best record in program history to start a season, earning a notable sweep against a then-No. 16 Southern California team in the process. Next: vs. Colorado on Thursday, Sept. 25.
West Virginia (12-0): Though the Mountaineers do not have any ranked wins, they have posted seven straight sweeps. Next: at Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Clemson (12-0): The Tigers' 12-match win streak is their sixth such opening to a season in program history, while their 9-0 home record is their best start since 1999. Clemson owns wins against SEC foes Georgia and South Carolina. Next: vs. Florida State on Friday, Sept. 26.
Michigan State (10-0): Michigan State's 10-0 record marks the program's best opening since 2012, when the Spartans advanced to the regional semifinals. This is Michigan State's fourth time ever with such a start. Next: at No. 12 Minnesota on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Hofstra (9-0): For the second time in program history, the Pride began the year perfect with nine in the win column. Hofstra's hot start included sweeps against UNC Wilmington, FDU and Binghamton. Next: at Charleston on Friday, Sept. 26.

4. South Carolina State | MEAC | 2-2 (0-0) | Prev: 3
South Carolina State isn't being penalized for an FBS loss to South Florida; the margin between the Bulldogs and NCCU right now is razor thin. However, I don't do ties so NCCU has the edge for now.

6. Howard | MEAC | 3-1 (0-0) | Prev: 6
Howard finally ended its losing streak against rival Hampton. However, this is a Hampton team without a DI win so far this season. Howard's win is nice, but not enough to get the Bison into the top five.
7. Delaware State | MEAC | 3-1 (0-0) | Prev: 9
Delaware State moves up to No. 7 after winning its third straight game. The Hornets blasted Saint Francis to add another non-conference win. The rushing attack continued its dominance gaining 299 yards.
8. Prairie View A&M | SWAC | 2-2 (1-0) | Prev: 8
Prairie View A&M moves in front of Southern after winning its second DI game. The Panthers escaped Northwestern State. It's not the most impressive opponent, but a win is a win.
7. Southern | SWAC | 1-3 (1-0) | Prev: 7
Southern had a bye, but drops as it is only 1-3. With Jackson State up next, this week will determine how good this Jaguars team can be.
